This year, at the International Women’s Day event in Tamworth the Zonta Club of Tamworth along with Tamworth Regional Council and the regional Australia Bank will recognise the economic and social achievements of women throughout the Tamworth region.
This is the first time that Zonta has called for nominations from Businesses and community members for this inaugural International Women’s Day Awards 2017
The introduction of a dedicated awards program will give the community an opportunity to recognise the important role and achievements of women in our region.
Zonta will also be joined by other service groups and clubs on the night to help us celebrate the achievements of women
There are three different categories recognising the creativity and resilience of women: Community Leadership Award, Business Leadership Award and the Aboriginal Woman of the Year Award.
This year’s awards also acknowledges local Aboriginal women who show an interest in developing the next generation, or who are actively involved in the delivery of local Aboriginal programs or who have developed relationships with the wider community to ensure Aboriginal issues are heard.
This year Zonta has introduced the Zonta Advocate Award, highlighting the contribution of men who promote equity for women in the Tamworth Region.
The awards are open to all residents in the Tamworth region over 18 years of age. Zonta will also be presenting the Young Women in Public Affairs Award on the night
Jane Caro is our special Guest Speaker for the night and she wears many hats; including author, novelist, lecturer, mentor, social commentator, columnist, workshop facilitator, speaker, broadcaster and award winning advertising writer.
WHAT BETTER SPEAKER FOR AN EVENT THAT CELEBRATES AND EMPOWERS LOCAL WOMEN , Jane is well known for her writing and has published two books that make her a perfect speaker on women's empowerment:
“The F Word. How we learned to swear by feminism” co-authored with Catherine Fox (New South, 2008)
“Just a Girl” her first novel (UQP, 2011) "Just a Queen” (UOP) was published in May last year and her latest book “plain-speaking Jane” also is on topic
Jane is a delight in words and has a talent for using them to connect with other people. Personally I love that Jane formally mentors young business people through McCarthy Mentoring.
A much sought after speaker, MC and workshop facilitator Jane has raised conversations about young people and how data is killing creativity
Jane Caro has appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise, the Drum ABC television’s Q&A and as a regular panellist on The Gruen Transfer. She also undertakes regular radio work and has filled in as host for RN’s iconic “Life Matters”.
Jane worked in the advertising industry and lectured in advertising at the school of Humanities and Communication Arts at the University of western Sydney
